Gerald Ford's Grand Compound Quickly Sells

While it's certainly not the White House, the late President Gerald Ford's desert compound was apparently a hot ticket in Palm Desert because it quickly sold after just two months on the market. Curbed reports that the sweet compound where the late president lived after leaving office fetched $1.675 million, which is quite close to the original list price of $1.699 million.

According to Palm Desert Patch, Gerald and Betty Ford bought the Rancho Mirage, Calif. property from Leonard Firestone, a friend of the Fords and a boardmember of Firestone tire company, in the 1970s. The couple then commissioned architect Welton Becket to design the gated single-story compound in 1979.

The estate measures 6,316 square feet and sits on the 13th fairway of the Thunderbird Country Club. There's six bedrooms, 4.5 baths, separate his and hers offices, and a swimming pool, which President Ford was reportedly a big fan of. The estate abounds with historic details such as an original sculpture from New York artist Paul Von Ringelheim, which was given as a gift to the late president.

If the new owners were looking to literally live like the late prez, all the original furniture was available for purchase, though it's unclear whether they took up that offer.
