A grateful St. Francis Hospital patient has given the hospital $2.5 million and wants his or her identity to remain a secret.
The patient placed no restrictions on the gift.
“We truly appreciate this gift, which will support the continued growth and development of the Hospital through an array of critical priorities.” Christopher M. Dadlez, President and Chief Executive Officer of the hospital and medical center. said. “Philanthropy of this magnitude is essential to enabling Saint Francis to continue acquiring leading-edge technology and providing world-class care to patients.”
The hospital has benefited from several large financial gifts. In July 2008, the hospital received the largest donation in its history, a $12.5 million gift from an anonymous donor. It was to be used for the Hoffman Heart and Vascular Institute.
In January 2008, the hospital announced an anonymous $6 million gift to go toward the hospital’s orthopedic program, including the Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute.
In April 2007, the hospital received a $5 million gift from Nancy and Daniel O’Connell, of South Glastonbury, and it is going toward construction of Saint Francis’ John T. O’Connell Tower, named for their late son who was treated at the hospital for cancer.
The new 10-story tower is expected to begin operations in April 2011.
