A convicted sex offender from Woodbury is in more trouble after cops say they found almost 23,000 pictures and more than 1,000 videos of child pornography on his computers at home and work.
Hamden police arrested Charles Heaton, 60, on Thursday after finding images featuring children from around the world, including more than 1,200 who were identified as missing or exploited, according to the New Haven Register.
Heaton’s criminal history includes convictions for fourth-degree sex assault on a minor, possession of child pornography and risk of injury by impairing the morals of a child.
Hamden police began investigating in 2008 after getting a complaint that a person working at a Sherman Avenue business possibly had child pornography. They searched the company, seized computers and recovered images and movie files, police said.
“Computer crime investigations, by their very nature, are painstaking and frequently labor intensive,” Police Chief Tomas Wydra told the New Haven Register. “This investigation shows that the Internet can also be a place where the worst kinds of evil can be manifested.”
Heaton was scheduled to appear before a judge on Friday in Meriden Superior Court.
