A Fairfield family is frantically searching for an elderly relative who disappeared while vacationing in Peru.
Julie Tamayo says her 79-year-old father-in-law, Jose Eduardo Tamayo, went missing while traveling with his friend, Alvaro Rossel. The two were last seen on Sept. 19 near Oxapampa, Peru, 248 miles northeast of Lima.
Jose Eduardo Tamayo was born and raised in Peru but has lived in the United States for nearly 30 years and owns J.E.T. Corporation, a foundry business in Bridgeport, and recently moved to Fairfield from Shelton.
His family is worried about him and they are looking for any information as to what might have happened to him.
Jose Eduardo’s son, Jose Luis, has flown to Peru to help in the search and is working with the U.S. State Department as well as Congressman Jim Himes to get the word out about his missing father.
Apparently the area where Jose Eduardo disappeared from is remote. The family believes he could have been involved in an accident or might have been car-jacked while traveling.
"We are desperate," Julie Tamayo told the Connecticut Post.
Julie said that the family first became worried when her father-in-law didn't arrive in Lima last Tuesday, as scheduled. Concerns increased when the family attempted to call him on Thursday, which was his 79th birthday, and couldn't reach him.
