One person has died in a fire in an apartment in Colchester.
The fire broke out in the house on Mill Street late Saturday night.
A man was rescued from the fire and taken to the Marlborough Clinic with significant burns. He was then flown by LifeStar medical helicopter to Shriners' Hospital in Rhode Island, according to Deputy Fire Chief Donald Lee.
Fire officials did not identify the man, but said they believe he lived in the second floor apartment where the fire broke out.
A search of the house found a second victim who died in the apartment. That person could not be identified, Lee said.
"Our crews made a valiant effort to get in and search for victims and were able to make a real good aggressive push," Lee said.
Two firefighters were injured and taken to the hospital. Both have since been released, according to fire officials.
Local
Fire crews from Hebron, Salem, Columbia and Niantic assisted Colchester firefighters in fighting the fire.
The fire marshal will determine the cause of the fire, but it did not appear to be suspicious, according to fire officials.
The Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosive Investigation Unit is also investigating.
