Twelve people were arrested in Hartford Monday in a "Black Lives Matter" protest.
About 75 people participated in the non-violent protest, organized by the group, Moral Monday CT. The group gathered at 50 Bloomfield Avenue, the Unitarian Society of Hartford, at about 4 p.m. on Monday for the "advertised demonstration," police said.
Fifteen minutes later or so, some of the protesters sat and stood in the road at the intersection of Albany and Bloomfield avenues, blocking traffic at rush hour, including a main artery to get to and from the University of Hartford. They refused to get out of the road, police said.
Police warned them they'd be arrested if they didn't move.
Hartford police arrested 12 people on disorderly conduct charges who refused to get out of the road, nine of whom were women and three of whom were men, according to Deputy Chief Brian Foley, spokesman for the Hartford Police Department. Ten of the people arrested were from the suburbs and two were from Hartford. Police took them to the department's detention facility without further issues.

- Susan McMillen, 69, of Coventry

- Joan Macomber, 66, of South Windsor
- Pamela Selder, 53, Hartford
- Christine Joyner, 68, of Manchester
- Maura Hallisey, 24, of Wethersfield
- Arthur Miller, 70, of Windsor
- Jason Fredlund, 30, of Hartford
They will appear in court on one of three different court dates assigned to them, police said.
