State police are investigating two fatal crashes on Connecticut highways over the holiday weekend and responded to thousands of other incidents.
Noel Lopez, 26, of Meriden, was killed in what police said was a wrong-way crash on Route 5/15 in East Hartford just after 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.
He was driving north in the southbound lane near exit 90 and collided, head-on, with the car Alexander Rodriguez, 25, of Vernon, was driving, police said.
Rodriguez and Lopez were both transported to Hartford Hospital. Lopez was pronounced dead. Rodriguez’s injuries are not life-threatening, police said.
Paul Hubbard, 46, of Portland, was killed in a crash on Route 66 in Marlborough on Saturday afternoon, according to state police.
He was driving a motorcycle and struck another motorcycle at the intersection of Blackledge Drive just before 2:30 p.m., police said.
The other motorcyclist had slowed down for another vehicle to turn when the crash happened, police said. Hubbard suffered head trauma.

State police are investigating both crashes.
State troopers also issued 1,376 citations for speeding and 417 for seatbelt violations.
State police made 65 DUI arrests, responded to 9,728 calls for service and are investigating 389 crashes.
In 2010, one person was killed on a state highway over the holiday weekend.
