Avon Doctor Accused of Sexually Assaulting Patients

Avon police have arrested a doctor accused of sexually assaulting patients during medical visits.

A woman contacted police on June 27, 2013, accusing Dr. Khosro Pourkavoos, 51, of Avon, of sexually assaulting her during medical office visits, police said.

Police said Pourkavoos has a practice at 35 Nod Road in Avon.

As Avon police investigated, they identified other potential female patients who might also have been sexually assaulted during medical visits, police said.

Through information online, police located another woman who told police that Pourkavoos had sexually assaulted her during medical visits, police said.

Police arrested Pourkavoos on Wednesday. Two separate warrants were issued, charging him with one count of second-degree sexual assault and two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault.

Attorney James Bergenn is representing Pourkavoos and issued a statement on Friday afternoon.

"Dr. Pourkavoos has served his community over many years, He has had a wonderful and professional relationship with thousands of patients during his lengthy career as their family physician. He has provided the highest quality of care to his patients and has earned an excellent reputaion in his community. He is very concerned about these hurtful and unexpected allegations from last Summer and will continue to try and understand why these statements were made," Bergenn said.

"Out of respect for confidentiality, and in consideration for his very positive relationship with his patients, the doctor will not comment further publicly about their credibility. As a doctor who has earned an exemplary reputation, he remains committed to all of his patients and will allow the fairness of the judicial process to clear his good name," the statement says.

Pourkavoos has admitting privileges at Saint Francis Hospital and they released a statement about the arrest.

"Dr. Khosro Pourkavoos is a private practice physician.

"Dr. Pourkavoos does not have an employment contract, nor any provider services agreement with Saint Francis. He does have admitting privileges at Saint Francis.

"Like Saint Francis, Dr. Pourkavoos leases office space at the 35 Nod Road, Avon, facility, a privately owned medical office.

"If requested, we will assist in any investigation as directed by appropriate authorities."

State records show no disciplinary actions against Pourkavoos, but he faces a malpractice lawsuit over the 2009 death of a patient whose family claims the patient suffered a pulmonary embolism because Pourkavoos didn't prescribe blood thinners, according to the AP.

Pourkavoos' lawyer in the lawsuit declined comment to the Associated Press.

Bond was set at $150,000. He was released and is due in court in Hartford on Feb. 5.
