Body of Missing Boater Washes Up on Fairfield Beach

A body spotted in the water off Fairfield has been tentatively identified as a man who went missing while boating on Long island Sound earlier this month.

Police say two girls spotted the body Thursday about 25 feet off shore. They called police, who recovered it.

Bridgeport Police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald says based on jewelry and clothing he was wearing when he went missing, the body has been tentatively identified as 32-year-old Shigemune Mori.

Mori was last been seen near Seaside Park in Bridgeport on June 12, before taking a 14-foot raft into the sound.

Police say Mori had been rafting with a friend, who swam to shore after their vessel capsized. The Coast Guard searched for Mori, but did not find him.
