Fire destroyed the secondary office of a Plainville business overnight.
Police responded to Eagle Fence & Guardrail on Canal Street at 11:40 p.m. on Tuesday to investigate the report of smoke and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building, so they called the fire department.
The fire chief said this was a stubborn fire because of several plastics and materials in the building.
“There’s a lot of concealed spaces, a lot of voids in there. That fire was very heavily involved and we couldn’t make an interior attack at all,” Chief Kevin Toner, of the Plainville Fire Department, said.
Four people work out of this location, which is used and an office and warehouse, and no one was in the building when the fire broke out.
The office is salvageable, but the warehouse was destroyed, according to the business owner.
“It’s got to settle in for me, but we try to make lemonade out of lemons and try to make a better plan going forward," Scott Putnam, the owner of the company, said. "Sometimes impetus like this causes you to make changes for the better.”
The fencing company has been in business for 50 years, including 20 at the current location. Eagle Fencing will be able to operate out of a secondary location.

Firefighters have extinguished the fire and the fire marshal is investigating the cause of it.
