Fire Knocked Down in East Hartford

Authorities say a fire that raced through an apartment building in East Hartford Saturday has forced residents to jump from third-floor windows to safety, leaving two people with injuries.

The fire broke out at 15 Bell Street in East Hartford Saturday morning. Sgt. Peter Vanek said emergency dispatchers received a call reporting the fire at about 6:30 a.m. Officers who arrived at Bell Court Condominiums saw residents jump through windows because the stairwell was in flames.

Crews knocked down the fire and remained at the scene investigating throughout Saturday afternoon.

Vanek said at least two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Firefighters evacuated the remaining residents and put out the blaze.

The fire marshal is investigating.
