Firefighters responded to a large fire at a grocery store in Southington on Sunday night.
According to the Southington Fire Department, the fire was at the IGA Tops Market on the Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike.
Fire officials said there were shoppers and employees inside of the store when the fire broke out. Staff members who witnessed the fire safely evacuated everyone and called 911.
When crews arrived, they found heavy fire showing from the rear of the building and through the roof.
Photos and videos from the scene showed flames coming through the roof of the building.
The fire department had to ask the water department to turn on additional pumps to increase pressure to the area to get enough water on the fire, firefighters said.
Power was also shut off in the area so it wouldn't interfere with crews fighting the fire from up above.
Local
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it's believed that the building is a total loss and will need to be knocked down.
