Bristol Woman Dead After Car Crashes into Water in Deep River

A 33-year-old mother of three from Bristol is dead after a car crashed into the water in Deep River Saturday afternoon, according to state police.

Police said the accident occurred around 3:15 p.m. on Main Street near Winter Avenue. According to police, the driver of the car was heading southbound on Main Street when the 1999 Chevy Tahoe crossed into the northbound lane, hit a curb, rolled down an embankment and landed on its roof in several feet of water.

The victim, later identified as Jennifer Homan, 34, of Bristol, was the only person in the vehicle at the time. She was taken to Shoreline Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead at 4:20 p.m.

Officials said there were concerns that Homan's children might have been in the SUV and searchers checked the water. Police were later able to determine the children were not with Homan.

The road was closed while crews investigated but has since reopened. Multiple departments responded, including Deep River Fire and Old Saybrook Fire.

State police said this accident remains under investigation.
