Search of Bristol Lake Continues in Hernandez Case

Police are looking for evidence in the case, including the weapon used to kill Odin Lloyd.

Investigators will spend a sixth day searching Pine Lake Park in Bristol in connection with the investigation into Aaron Hernandez.

Hernandez, a Bristol native and former New England Patriot, has been charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old Boston semi-professional football player.

Hernandez, who has pleaded not guilty, is being held in lieu of bond.

Lloyd's body was found on June 17 in an industrial park about a mile from Hernandez's Massachusetts home. He had been shot five times in what officials have called an "execution style" killing.

Police have not found the weapon and told NBC Connecticut they are searching for evidence in the case, including the murder weapon.

They took a day off from the search on Monday, but will be back out today.

Bristol police, along with Connecticut State Police and Massachusetts state police, have been conducting the search, using metal detectors and special sonar equipment.

During the painstaking search, state police divers are able to see only about an inch in front of them in the murky lake waters.

To date, they have found nothing connected to the case in the lake.

Police said they will have to decide whether to search the entire lake.

This is not the first part of the investigation to focus on Bristol.

Since June, police have executed several search warrants in Bristol at homes linked to Hernandez and his alleged associates, Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz.

According to warrants, Ortiz and Wallace were with Hernandez on June 17 and returned to Lake Street in Bristol, about a mile away from the lake.

Whether the search will continue tomorrow is not known.

Police sources have told NBC Connecticut that more charges could be filed against Hernandez.
