The Red Cross is helping people who were displaced when fire broke out in Norwich.
At least eight fire departments responded to a structure fire at a mixed-used building in the Taftville section of Norwich Monday morning.
Fire broke out in the lower floor of 1 South Second Ave., a building that includes two apartments and a convenience store that has not yet opened.
Residents were able to get out of the building and were not injured. The Red Cross is assisting them.
Firefighters were ordered out of the building and fought the fire defensively.
Crews will remain at the scene for awhile.
