New Haven police are investigating a fatal shooting Tuesday afternoon at the E&M Smoke Shop on Ferry Street in the Fair Haven section of New Haven.
The shooting happened around 1:36 p.m. at 545 Ferry St.
New Haven Police Officer David Hartman said the victim has been identified as Muhanad Jawad, 21, of New Haven. Jawad was pronounced dead just before 2 p.m. at the hospital. Police said Jawad owned the smoke shop.
Police said the gunman is described as male, wearing a black shirt or hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. It does not appear that robbery was the motive, police said.

According to police, they received information that a vehicle may have been involved in the incident.
Police looked into the possibility that four people taken into custody after a police pursuit of a stolen vehicle were connected with the incident, but police said Tuesday evening that the cases were not connected.
