Rainwater from a storm that dumped a month-worth of water in a day caused smoke to rise up from a manhole in Hartford Wednesday morning, prompting the closure of a block of a busy downtown street during the morning rush hour.
Officials initially said there was a manhole explosion on Columbus Boulevard, but officials from Eversource later said there was no explosion.
They said rainwater came in contact with an electrical box and smoke rose up from a manhole.
The road was closed between State and Bob Steele streets, near the Connecticut Science Center.
No injuries are reported and power is on to businesses in the area.
