The last Republican in the U.S. House from New England has lost his re-election bid.
Christopher Shays was defeated by Democrat Jim Himes, a former Goldman Sachs vice president who now runs Northeast operations at Enterprise Community Partners, an affordable housing operation.
Shays was seeking his 11th term from the wealthy Fairfield County district in southwest Connecticut.
The Himes win likely gives Connecticut an all-Democratic House delegation. Three Connecticut Democrats easily won re-election.
