Amber Diaz co-anchors the weekday 4 p.m. & 5:30 p.m. newscasts at NBC Connecticut. Her reporting and special project stories can also be seen throughout the week in the 4 p.m., 5 p.m., or 6 p.m. newscasts.
She is a Connecticut native who has lived and traveled around the country covering some of the nation's biggest stories in the last decade. That includes the 2018 tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida where a gunman opened fire, killing 17 people.
During her time in Portland, Oregon, she covered the ongoing protests following the 2016 presidential election.
Before coming to Connecticut, Amber was a reporter at WFOR/CBS4 in Miami, Florida. In 2018, she was taken on an exclusive tour inside the nation's largest holding facility for migrant children. She provided continuous coverage on the children's wellbeing as other families continued to cross the border into the United States.
Prior to Florida, Amber was a general assignment and sports reporter at Fox12 Oregon where she covered high school football. She got her start in local television news with the News 12 family in the Bronx in 2012.
Amber graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and English. She received her Masters in Broadcast and Digital Journalism from the Newhouse School at Syracuse University. During her master's program, she interned for KABC7 in Los Angeles, California, and was also based in Washington, D.C., where she contributed to several local stories at the nation's capital.
