Police have arrested a second person in connection with a shootout on a busy New Haven street corner around 2 a.m. on Sunday on Sept. 21.
Police arrested Cornell Tucker, 18, of New Haven, on Saturday.
On Thursday, police arrested Cadell Harris, 26, who is accused of firing at police after a fight spilled out of Static Nightclub and onto the streets of the entertainment district. Police tried to break up a fight and a man shot at police, police said. Officers fired back in self defense and two people were injured in the chaos.
The shootout prompted a massive police presence dubbed "Operation Nightlife," an initiative in which police blanketed the streets and clubs of New Haven's entertainment district and police asked club owners to be responsible for the patrons inside their clubs.
During the early morning shooting, a bullet pierced the window of Pacifco Restaurant. Two victims were treated at local hospitals for non-life threatening injuries. No officers were injured.
Tucker has been charged with criminal liability for the acts of another, conspiracy, first-degree assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit. He is being held in lieu of a $1 million bond. More arrests are expected, police said.
