Stratford native Javier Colon has been the breakout star of NBC's inaugural season of The Voice, a singing competition featuring an all star cast of judges: Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. On May 26, the budding local celebrity will visit the Ridgefield Playhouse for a high-profile homecoming gig. Colon isn't a newcomer to the music industry: he released two solo albums with Capitol Records before his career stalled, but regained a foothold in 2010 opening for the likes of Joss Stone and the Indigo Girls.
Colon, a graduate of Hartford's Hartt School of Music, made an immediate impact during the show's premiere when he sang a cover of Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time." The performance garnered rave reviews from all four judges, landing him a spot on Levine's team and pegging him as an early favorite to win the competition and its life-changing prize: $100,000 and a major label deal. Colon also became the show's first contestant to chart on the Billboard 100 when his buzzed-about cover debuted at No. 65 on May 5. Check out a clip from that fateful performance here. Tickets are $25-$30. 8 p.m.
