State to Allow Limited In-Person School Graduation Ceremonies Starting July 6

NBC Universal, Inc.

School districts will be able to hold in-person graduation ceremonies beginning July, but they must follow certain health and safety restrictions, according to the governor.

The schools will be able to hold outdoor ceremonies with a limit of 150 people, according to Gov. Ned Lamont.

Larger schools would be permitted to do graduation ceremonies in shifts to accommodate all seniors, as long as each shift is limited to 150 people, Lamont said. The 150 person limit includes graduates.

Proper social distancing protocols must be followed during the graduations.

Schools can continue to hold drive in ceremonies, however, if cars are parked immediately next to each other, all car windows must be closed. If cars are parked at least six feet from each other, car windows can be open but occupants must wear masks.

The governor will sign an executive order on this new plan in the next couple of days, according to his office.

The state Department of Education will be providing school districts with additional guidance "soon."
