An additional 20 people have died from COVID-19 as the state's positivity rate hovers around two percent.

Connecticut's COVID-19 positivity rate is now 2.02%. On Wednesday, the positivity rate was 1.58%, which is the lowest it has been in months.

Out of over 27,000 coronavirus tests reported since Wednesday, 547 came back positive.

The state's death toll is now 7,496.

Hospitalizations have decreased by 16. There are now a total of 568.

The governor said he expects to have more information next week about vaccine distribution to frontline essential workers and people with underlying health conditions as part of phase 1b.

A total of 746,888 vaccine doses have been administered across Connecticut. This includes 504,129 first doses and 242,759 second doses, according to Gov. Ned Lamont.

Of the 75 and over population, 68% are vaccinated and 29% of the 65 to 74 population have already received the first vaccine, according to state officials.

Connecticut is now number 3 nationally in terms of vaccine distribution.

The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference has made some adjustments to winter high school sports that originally were not allowed to compete due to COVID-19 restrictions.

After consulting with the Department of Public Health, the CIAC will allow virtual competition for competitive cheerleading and competitive dance beginning March 1. Student-athletes will be required to wear masks during the competitions, with an exception for brief removal of masks for those performing stunts, lifts, tumbling, and other acrobatics, according to the CIAC.

While some sports will get underway soon, others will not be able to hold their winter seasons under the approved CIAC plan.

On Thursday, the state announced that a new mass COVID-19 vaccine site will open Friday at Mohegan Sun.
