The Connecticut Department of Public Health has declared a COVID-19 alert for the city of Danbury following a recent spike in coronavirus cases.
The city reported 44 new coronavirus cases since Thursday, according to Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton.
Between August 2 and 20, Danbury recorded at least 178 new COVID-19 cases, according to the DPH.
The CT DPH said the alert comes after a significant increase in cases in Danbury over the last two weeks. They said most of the outbreak is related to recent domestic and international travel.
Residents are asked to stay home if possible, avoid unnecessary outings, limit indoor gatherings to only those you live with, and refrain from attending large church services or outdoor gatherings, the DPH said.
“This is a serious outbreak in Danbury and we really need an all hands on deck approach. We need everyone in Danbury to take extreme precautions,” said Acting DPH Commissioner Deidre S. Gifford. “We are urging anyone who thinks they may have been exposed to get tested as soon as possible, stay home until your test results are known and stay at home for 10 days if you test positive.”
