Stratford school officials have decided to close Wilcoxson Elementary School for the rest of the week after learning a student has a suspected case of coronavirus.

The Town of Stratford is closing a school for the rest of the week because a student there is suspected to have coronavirus.

Wilcoxson Elementary School will be closed through Friday, according to the mayor's office.

The student has been tested for coronavirus and they are awaiting the results of the test, according to Stratford's health director.

The town was notified by the state Department of Public Health about the possible case of COVID-19 at the school.

The student is under the care of a health care provider.

The school is being closed out of an abundance of caution to allow time for an extensive cleaning of the building, officials said.

No other schools in Stratford are impacted, according to the superintendent.

Region 14 schools have also closed through the end of the week after it was learned that a student there came in contact with one of Connecticut's two coronavirus patients.
