The FDA could give emergency authorization for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children between 12 and 15 years old by next week. This is what Connecticut parents should know.

Connecticut's COVID-19 positivity is 1.92% and virus-related hospitalizations continue to decline to lows not seen in awhile.

With a net decrease of nine hospitalizations, there are a total of 324.

An additional seven deaths have been reported since Wednesday. The state's death toll is now 8,131.

With just shy of 27,000 tests performed in the past day, 711 came back positive, according to state officials.

The state's positivity rate was 2.6% on Wednesday.

The governor said this is the first week since September that there was not a single COVID-19 fatality in a Connecticut nursing home.

COVID-19 Vaccine Update

Gov. Ned Lamont announced that 70% of all adults in Connecticut have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

He pointed out that the national goal was to vaccinate 70% of adults by July 4, so Connecticut is way ahead of schedule.

The governor said he is prepared and expecting potential FDA authorization to vaccinate 12 to 15 year olds next week.

More than 1.9 million residents have received the first dose of the vaccine and nearly 1.5 million people are now fully vaccinated, according to state officials.

NBC News reports that the US Food and Drug Administration expects to authorize the Pfizer vaccine for those age 12 to 15 by next week, potentially even sooner.
