Nonnewaug High School Senior Killed in Head-On Crash on Route 6 in Woodbury

A high school senior has died after a head-on crash in Woodbury on Saturday night.

State police said 17-year-old Tristan Ocasio, of Bethlehem, was traveling north on Route 6 around 8:45 p.m. when he veered from his lane and hit a vehicle that was traveling south.

After hitting the first vehicle, investigators said Ocasio struck another vehicle head-on.

Ocasio was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Region 14, Ocasio was a senior at Nonnewaug High School in Woodbury. Superintendent Brian Murphy described Ocasio as a "wonderful student and uplifting."

The district said Ocasio has one sibling each at the high school and Woodbury Middle School. Counselors will be available at both schools for the rest of the week.

One other driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Waterbury Hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation.
