Norwich police have arrested a man and charged him with attempted murder and arson after an investigation into a fire that started early Wednesday morning.
Norwich firefighters responded to 261-263 Central Ave., a building with two businesses and two apartments, at 12:24 a.m. Wednesday and found fire from the rear deck, stairs and siding.
Several people were in the building at the time and were able to get out after fire alarms went off, police said. A Norwich firefighter sustained a minor injury while fighting the fire.
Investigators determined that the fire was set and Norwich police detectives and the fire investigation unit arrested 38-year-old Tyree Davis, of Taftville. He has been charged with criminal attempt at murder, arson in the first degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree and criminal mischief in the first degree.
Detectives served the warrant on Davis, who is a registered sexual offender, while he was appearing at Norwich Superior Court for a separate arrest in Norwich, police said.
Davis was arrested on a warrant issued in December 2017 charging him with violation of a standing criminal protective order and was held on a $100,000 bond for that case.
He has been held in lieu of an additional $1 million bond.

Police said Davis refused to fully cooperate with the booking process and was also charged with failure to submit to fingerprinting. He was held an additional $5,000 bond.
Police said the warrant is sealed.
