An 18-year-old from Middletown has died after a crash on Route 9 North on Tuesday night and the two teenage passengers sustained serious injuries.
State police said Amil Carlton Phillip, 18, of Middletown, was driving a Toyota Camry, went off Route 9 North between exits 11 and 12 around 7:18 p.m. and hit a tree.
Phillip was pronounced dead at the scene, according to state police.
The two passengers in the vehicle, an 18-year-old New Britain woman and an 18-year-old Middletown man, sustained serious injuries, but they are not believed to be life-threatening, according to state police.

They were both taken to Hartford Hospital.
State police are investigating the crash.
