Man Charged After Norwalk Standoff

Norwalk police arrested a man accused of threatening a woman and prompting a police standoff Friday morning.

Police said they were called to a home on Creeping Hemlock Drive for a report of a despondent man. That man, identified as Joseph Sander, had threatened to hurt another person in his home.

When officers arrived they found Sander wielding a knife and standing with a woman on the front steps, according to police. The woman escaped unharmed and Sander went inside, refusing to surrender to officers.

Crisis negotiators were called in and Sander eventually surrendered, police said. He was charged with threatening, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.

Bond was set at $250,000 and Sander is due in court Monday.
