The case of a Bridgeport man accused of killing and dismembering his girlfriend, a student at Eastern Connecticut State University, is returning to court after a jury deadlocked and a mistrial was declared.
Jermaine Richards, 32, has a pretrial conference scheduled for Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court. His lawyer, prosecutors and a judge are expected to discuss the case.
Richards is charged with murder in the April 2013 killing of Alyssiah Wiley, 20, an ECSU student from West Haven. Her partial remains were found in a wooded area in Trumbull about a month after she was last seen with Richards outside her dorm.
A 12-parge affidavit released after Richards' arrest depicted a turbulent four-year relationship between the two. According to the documents, Wiley tried to break up with Richards over Facebook in the days before her disappearance.
Richards denies killing Wiley and has pleaded not guilty.
