Police are investigating after a woman was sexually assaulted while running on a trail in Avon around noon on Thursday and they are searching for the assailant.
Police said the victim, who is in her early 30s, was running on the Rails to Trails path south of Scoville Road when a man grabbed her from behind, dragged her off the path and sexually assaulted her.
A passerby called 911 at 12:09 p.m. to report the attack.
The perpetrator is described as a man with a goatee, standing about 5-feet-6 inches tall. Police said he was wearing sunglasses, a black shirt, a reflective traffic vest and a baseball cap. Authorities have not identified a suspect.
Police are trying to get a better description of the man.
The victim also told police a water, oil or chemical truck was in the area when she saw the man.
Detectives are actively investigating and police said they have stepped up patrols along the path.

Police want to speak to anyone who was on the trail between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. who saw anything that might help them identify the attacker.
