Torres Keeps Council Seat

City Council members did not have the votes it needed Tuesday evening to oust Hartford City Council President, and Mayor Eddie Perez supporter, Calixto Torres.

The council voted 5-3 with one member abstaining allowing Torres to remain in his post.

Several council members wanted to oust Torres based on his close relationship with Mayor Eddie Perez who has pleaded not guilty to charges including bribery.

Perez is accused of hiring a city contractor to do work on his home, but only paying for half of the $40,000 in renovations.
