The state Department of Transportation is expected to begin construction work on Elm Street in Rocky Hill on Monday.
Elm Street, also known as Route 160, will be closed to facilitate the replacement of two bridges. The bridges being replaced carry Route 160 over Interstate 91 in Rocky Hill.
There will be a detour using West Street, Cromwell Avenue and Main Street until August 23.
As for I-91 north and south, the contractor will be allowed to close one lane between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Sunday. Night time lane closures will be between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m.
On two consecutive Sundays, the contractor will be allowed to close one direction of I-91.
On July 28, I-91 southbound will be closed and on August 4, I-91 north will be affected. The closures will be 5 hours at a time and will take place from 1 a.m. through 6 a.m.
The Department of Transportation said the project will be done using accelerated bridge construction, which is a process designed to expedite the process.
