86-year-old driver killed in head-on crash on Route 17 in Durham

An 86-year-old man was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Route 17 in Durham on Monday.

John Festa, of Northford, was driving south on Route 17 when his pickup collided with a car head-on, according to state police.

The crash happened around 1:15 p.m. near the intersection of Corn Club Road.

A third vehicle was involved after the first two vehicles collided.

Festa was taken to the hospital where he later died, state police said.

A passenger in Festa's truck was also taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision was also taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The third driver was not injured.

Route 17 was closed for several hours as state police investigated the crash. It reopened Monday evening.
