East Coast Rape Suspect Charged in Prison Fight

Correction officials say he was involved in a prison "scuffle".

The Connecticut man accused of raping women up and down the East Cast has been charged with assault after a fight in prison.

Aaron Thomas "scuffled" with cellmate Thomas Torres in a day room at the McDougal-Walker prison in Suffield, according to the Department of Correction. The fight took place March 31, the Hartford Courant reported.

Torres suffered abrasions to his neck and his knee. Thomas was charged with third-degree assault.

Thomas was arrested March 4 in New Haven. Federal authorities say they linked Thomas to a series of rapes on 17 women from Virginia to Connecticut. The rapes began in 1997 and continued until 2009. He is accused in the January 10, 2007 attack on a woman in her New Haven home.

Thomas had been living in New Haven when he was arrested in March.
