A 14-year-old Harwinton girl was standing outside of her father's vehicle, talking to him, when she was struck by another vehicle on Sunday and died, according to state police.

Troopers were called to Hill Road around 9:15 p.m. after getting a report of a pedestrian struck.

State police said the father of 14-year-old Kailey Prenoveau, of Harwinton, was facing north on the southbound side of Route 222, talking to his daughter out of his driver's side window while she stood on the shoulder of the road, when she was struck.

A driver heading south swerved to avoid hitting the man's vehicle and hit Prenoveau, according to investigators. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
