Fire at West Haven Family Dollar Appears Intentionally Set

A fire that broke out behind a Family Dollar store in West Haven on Thursday morning appears to be intentionally set, the fire marshal said.

Firefighters responded to the Savin Rock Parkade Shopping Center on Captain Thomas Boulevard and found a fire behind the Family Dollar store.

The flames spread to the roof of the store and firefighters had to use ladders to get to the fire because of where it was located, according to fire officials.

There was some damage to the Family Dollar, but no other stores were affected, fire officials said.

The West Haven fire marshal said the fire appears to have been intentionally set. It's the fourth fire in the Savin Rock shopping plaza since January 10.

Anyone with information on this fire is asked to call West Haven police. If there is an arrest or conviction, the state does have an arson tip reward associated with this case.
