Investigators are trying to determine what started a fire that caused extensive damage to a two-family residence at 209-211 Maple St. in New Britain Friday morning.
Fire officials received a call about the fire at 6:15 a.m. and crews initially went inside, but the house began to collapse, so firefighters had to get out and continue attacking it from the outside.
Six people live in the home, but eight people were inside when the fire started. No one was injured and everyone was evacuated, officials said.
Neighbors on both sides of the home were evacuated. No injuries are reported.
The New Britain Fire Department and the fire marshal’s office are investigating to determine where the fire started and what caused it.
Smoke was visible from Route 9.
