Hartford Fire Department

A bear that was found in a tree in Hartford on Saturday has been tranquilized and relocated by the state Dept. of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Firefighters were called to a report of a bear in a tree on Hillside Avenue around 9:30 a.m. DEEP was also contacted and responded.

A tranquilizer team determined the bear was too high in the tree to safely remove it, fire officials said.

During the incident, a fire call came in and companies cleared Hillside Avenue to respond to the fire.

According to fire officials, the bear came down without firefighters' assistance.

Police said the bear was eventually tranquilized and was relocated by DEEP.
