Flooding Damages Mall

Flash flooding closed roads and trapped drivers in several towns Sunday night and early Monday morning.

Anywhere from 1-3 inches of rain has fallen so far, with more on the way, according to NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Bob Maxon.

The shoreline was hardest hit, including Milford, where several roads flooded. A state trooper became trapped by flood waters in his cruiser at the bottom of the Exit 38 ramp off I-95. North Street and Old Gate Lane in Milford were also closed for a time.

The entire lower level of the Connecticut Post Mall was closed Monday morning because water had damaged at least 25 stores.   Crews cleaned up the affected stores, and checked for electrical damage.  Four or five stores were able to reopen Monday evening.  The rest were expected to open Tuesday morning.

Flooding closed the westbound lanes of Route 34 in Derby early Sunday, but the road has since reopened.

Rain is expected to continue through the day before coming to an end Tuesday. See the full forecast here.
