Former Bristol Swim Coach Under Investigation

Is a former swim coach in Bristol the man seen on a well-known website that claims to show adults that have alleged inappropriate contact with would-be minors? Bristol police confirmed Monday they have launched an investigation after being made aware of the video.

Bristol police have launched an investigation into whether a former Bristol swim coach is the man in a video posted on a well-known website that claims to show adults allegedly trying to have inappropriate contact with minors.

Bristol police told NBC Connecticut they received a complaint from Bristol’s Board of Education over the weekend about a swim coach in the district, Nick Daddabbo, after the video surfaced on the POP Squad website. POP stands for “Prey on Predators.”

The video alleges Daddabbo, who is called Nick in the recording, was involved with inappropriate contact including chatting, texting, and making plans to meet up with a minor.

Authorities said they’re investigating whether Daddabbo is the man seen in a 13-minute video posted on the website. According to police, Daddabbo has not been charged with any crime.

NBC Connecticut tried to speak with him by phone and at home in Plainville, but was unsuccessful.

Bristol’s Superintendent of Schools Office said in a statement that Daddabbo is no longer employed in the district following “notification of a posting on social media.”

The General Manager of the Cornerstone Aquatics Center in West Hartford, where Daddabbo also worked as a swim coach, said Daddabbo no longer works for them.

“As of Saturday, August 4 Nick Daddabbo is no longer employed at the Cornerstone Aquatics Center. We are as shocked and troubled by the allegations at the Community we serve. We have nothing further at this time,” said General Manager Michael.

Daddabbo has been working with children for years. The superintendent in Plainville confirmed Daddabbo coached swimming and diving at the middle school level from 2010 to 2016 and was a district substitute teacher his final year in Plainville before leaving to pursue his job in Bristol. Plainville officials say they did not have any concerns after Daddabbo’s background check, and there were no concerns with his personnel file.

Plainville Police confirmed Daddabbo also worked at the Wheeler YMCA in Plainville. Plainville police say they do not have any investigations involving Daddabbo. When NBC Connecticut reached out to management at the YMCA in Plainville, they would not confirm his past employment but provided this statement:

“As you might have heard, a former YMCA staff member is under investigation by several local police departments. This individual has not been employed by the Wheeler Regional Family YMCA for over a year. We are fully cooperating with the authorities in their investigation.

If you have specific information, questions or concerns then please contact Samantha Savran, Director of Marketing and Digital Outreach, at 860-324-4474.”

The YMCA also sent a letter to members offering tips for how to discuss the situation with their children.

Neighbors of Daddabbo’s, who were not willing to speak on camera, said they’re surprised and shocked and that Daddabbo is very polite and comes from a good family.
