The funeral for a Yale police officer who died last week after a medical episode was held on Wednesday.

The funeral service for Officer Gregory Swiantek was at the Toyota Oakdale Theater at 95 South Turnpike Road in Wallingford at noon.

Swiantek joined the Yale Police force in 2007 and served in various roles. He was a community engagement officer, a field training officer and served on the bike patrol.

Yale Police Chief Anthony Campbell called Swiantek's death a line of duty death. He said Swiantek was sent home during a shift and suffered a suspected heart attack shortly after.

Swiantek leaves behind a 10-year-old daughter named Remi, a loving family and hundreds of brothers and sisters in blue. His law enforcement family said they'll remember him as an extraordinary officer, devoted father and cherished friend.

"Greg’s thoughtful spirit shined in the small moments. He never missed sending those he loved a text on holidays, birthdays, or major life events, always keeping his friends and family close to his heart. His absence leaves a void that words cannot fill," the police department said.

At his wake on Tuesday, neighbors remembered Swiantek saying:

"Everything that he did just uplifted the community. He and Remi would come and deliver flowers to the whole neighborhood and so many things. He's going to be sorely, sorely missed," said Lance Hibbert.

"He was just a good human, you know, he just, he sent a text every holiday, even if we didn't see him," Monica Torresani added.
