2-Alarm Fire Destroys Old Saybrook House

A two-alarm fire destroyed a house on Otter Cove Road in Old Saybrook on Thursday night.

Firefighters responded to the home at 9:39 p.m. to investigate reports of fire and the house was already fully engulfed in flames and collapsing.

The blaze escalated to a two-alarm, bringing in teams from Essex and Clinton.

The house is in a part of town that lacks fire hydrants, so water tankers from Guilford, Madison, Deep River, Lyme, Old Lyme, Westbrook, Essex, Deep River and Chester responded.

It took more than an hour to battle the fire and firefighters had it under control by 10:51 p.m.

The Old Saybrook Ambulance, the Middlesex Hospital Paramedic and the New London Canteen
also arrived.

The Old Saybrook fire marshal’s office will investigate the cause.
