Advocates for gun rights and gun control are expected to pack a Connecticut legislative hearing on several firearms bills, including measures that would tighten safe storage laws and require people openly carrying guns to produce their permits if police ask.
The Judiciary Committee public hearing in Hartford is scheduled for Monday. The bills have spurred a flood of written testimony to the committee.
A bill to toughen home storage requirements for guns is in response to the death of 15-year-old Ethan Song in Guilford last year. Police say Ethan accidentally shot himself in the head with a gun owned by his father's friend.
Other bills would prohibit cities and towns from imposing their own firearms laws and regulate so-called "ghost guns" assembled by buyers or made with 3D printers.
