Firefighters battled a large fire at an automotive parts facility on Fish Fry Street in Hartford on Monday morning.
A firefighter who was driving by as, well as an employee at City Auto Parts reported the fire.
The fire department received the original reports of heavy black smoke at 10:56 a.m. and learned that workers were moving recycled materials in the scrap metal area of the yard and noticed that a small fire had started in a pile of metals, plastics and rubber.
The fire quickly spread through the 30 foot perimeter of the pile, but did not threaten structures or equipment.
Officials from City Auto Parts said oil and fuel are drained from cars when they arrive at the facility, so firefighters do not believe any hazardous materials were released during the fire.
No on was injured.
Heavy smoke was visible from sky cameras until firefighters got the blaze under control.
