Police search for shooters who appeared to be ‘lying in wait' for victim in Hartford

An East Hartford man has died after a shooting in Hartford Wednesday night.

An East Hartford man has died after a shooting in Hartford Wednesday night and police said it appears the shooters were waiting for the man and opened fire.

Officers responded to the area of Barbour and Kensington streets around 9:42 p.m. and found Terrawne Nickson, 46, of East Hartford behind a building.

Police said it appears that three people were waiting for Nickson and shot him several times.  

“It appeared three suspects were lying in wait for the victim. The victim appeared into camera view. The three suspects emerged. All three opened fire, so multiple shooters striking the victim,” Lt. Aaron Boisvert said.

It appears Nickson also pulled out a gun and shot but did not strike anyone, according to police.

Nickson was taken to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions are investigating.

This was the third shooting on Barbour Street within the last month. The most recent shooting was on July 31 and left a man with unspecified injuries.

About a week prior, there was a drive-by shooting. Marion Edwards, 24, was killed and a 70-year-old man was in critical condition, according to police.
