State police said a woman is dead after a car crash on Interstate 95 North in Stonington Thursday evening.
I-95 North in Stonington was closed for hours before eventually reopening.
State police initially said serious injuries were reported in the crash, which happened between exits 91 and 92. Three vehicles were involved, they said.
Troopers said a car rear-ended another vehicle, which then hit another car before stopping in a ditch. The car that caused the crash rolled over and also landed in a ditch.

A woman, identified as Barbara Dyer, 78, of North Franklin, was pronounced dead at the hospital. One of the other drivers was hospitalized with minor injuries, according to police.
Drivers were asked to seek alternate routes and a detour was set up. The crash remains under investigation.
