Ice is being blamed for the death of a Waterbury woman who was hit in the head by a falling utility pole Wednesday.
Colleen Moriarty, 21, was walking with two friends in front of her home on Mansfield Avenue when a large tree branch caked with ice fell on utility wires at about 4 p.m. and brought the pole down, police said.
A nursing supervisor at Saint Mary's Hospital says Moriarty died at about 9 p.m.
Her two friends were not hurt. One of her friends pulled snapped utility wires off Moriarty, police said.
