Report of gun at Cheshire High School is unfounded, police say

NBC Connecticut

A report of a gun at Cheshire High School has been determined to be unfounded, according to police, but students and staff will still see an increased police presence there on Tuesday.

Officers said a student reported that they had seen another student with what appeared to be a handgun while in a bathroom on Friday.

The school resource officer and detectives began investigating. They watched the video surveillance from within the school in an effort to identify anyone that may have been involved or inside of the bathroom at the time.

In total, eight students were interviewed. At this time, police said they are unable to substantiate what the student reported seeing.

According to police, one student had a cell phone with a protective cover that may have been mistaken for a gun.

The school resource officer will be at the high school Tuesday and there will be an increased police presence at all of the schools throughout the day.
